Children's charities join forces to unite the voluntary sector

The heads of 4Children and NCB explain how the Children's Strategic Partnership will help grassroots voluntary groups have a greater say in shaping future government policy on children and young people.

The dictionary describes an "honest broker" as "a person, group or country that serves as a mediator to help other people reach an agreement". It could also be used to summarise the role that 4Children and National Children's Bureau (NCB) are playing in acting as a conduit between the children's voluntary sector and the Department for Education over the next two years.

But while the dictionary definition implies a certain amount of conflict resolution, the two main players in the DfE's Children's Strategic Partnership see their "brokering" role as facilitating relationships between decision makers at the top and grassroots deliverers at the bottom.
