It was feared the course, run by the National College for School Leadership and fully funded by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), would only be available to managers from state-funded settings (Children Now, 27 October-2 November 2004).
But a college spokeswoman confirmed private sector managers would be eligible to apply for one of the 400 places on the year-long course starting in September.
Priority will be given to leaders and deputy leaders of integrated centres granted children's centre status by the DfES or set to become children's centres. Applications must be in by 27 May.
