Innovative work aimed at improving the lives of the UK's young people - and which exemplifies the principles enshrined in Every Child Matters, the Children Act 2004 and Youth Matters - is taking place right across the four nations.
This work is happening at every level, some of it project-based and with a preventive focus, some of it involving change throughout organisations in order to make them more child-focused, and some of it involving the demanding task of creating services where none existed before.
Last year's inaugural Children and Young People's Services Awards were refreshing and inspiring in their celebration of the best work from across the sector. They culminated last November in a glittering ceremony attended by the minister for children, young people and families Beverley Hughes, where the atmosphere was electric.
