Childcare: Playday - Newham council to hold free event

A London borough is planning to banish the perception of children on the streets as a bad thing with a free event on national Playday.

Newham council is inviting tenders for the 1 August event, which will becalled Our Streets Too! It will incorporate activities, dance workshops,arts and crafts, face painting, bouncy castles, entertainers and familyfun and games.

Children, parents and carers will also be able to access information onrelevant organisations and activities in Newham. This will be the 20thPlayday and the theme of Our Streets Too! aims to highlight theimportance of outdoor play and show how play-friendly streets canbenefit communities.

A council spokesman said it was common practice to tender as it does nothave in-house facilities for this type of event.
