Childcare: Endorsed schemes double in number

Twenty-five more childcare quality assurance schemes have been endorsed in Sure Start's Investors in Children programme. The schemes were assessed by a panel of experts against 10 key criteria, including the way they build on UK standards, look at staff management, and provide support to settings.

The results of this second round of accreditation, which were announced last week, bring the number of endorsed schemes to 50. More schemes will be considered in 2005 but a DfES spokesman said it was too early to say how many.

Childcare providers accredited to an Investors in Children quality assurance scheme can display a badge.

The programme was developed to help childcare providers raise standards and help parents identify good quality childcare.
