Childcare: Investors in Children to be reviewed

1 min read
Plans by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) to review its Investors in Children quality assurance accreditation scheme have been broadly welcomed by the childcare sector.

The DfES confirmed to Children Now it was starting to look at the way forward for Investors in Children (IiC) and considering what form a review would take.

It has accredited 48 quality assurance schemes run by local authorities, charities and childcare umbrella organisations so far. The DfES had intended to accredit more this year but has yet to decide if this will go ahead.

Rumours of changes to IiC had sparked fears of upheaval and extra costs for organisations running accredited schemes and settings undertaking them.

However, the review has been warmly welcomed by those who feel IiC has not been given a high enough profile.
