Childcare: Bolton under fire for unused nursery

Bolton Council has come under fire after it emerged that a nursery built seven months ago as part of a 1.8m children's centre is not expected to open until March this year.

Tonge Children's Centre was completed in May 2006 with Sure Startfunding.

The nursery will be run by the Pre-school Learning Alliance, which wonthe contract following a tender.

Conservative councillor Stuart Lever said: "This has been built withtaxpayers money and the absolute crime is that it has never been used."A spokesman for the council said the opening of the nursery had beendelayed due to the council having to go through the tender process.
