Lancashire council under fire for breaking deal on youth services

1 min read Youth Work
An official complaint has been lodged against Lancashire County Council for allegedly breaching an agreement with the local voluntary youth services in the area.

Lancashire Council for Voluntary Youth Services (LCVYS), the umbrella body for the voluntary youth sector in the county, claims the council has gone back on agreements made in a compact in 2005.

A compact is an agreement between voluntary and community organisations, councils and other local public bodies, which sets out how the different parties should behave in areas such as funding and consultation.

Ian Ferguson, company secretary at LCVYS, told CYP Now that last year 12 of its key members received a 51 per cent cut to strategic grants. He claims members were only told after the changes had been made and that no consultation or notice period was given to them.
