Childcare: Affordability forum recommended

A London childcare affordability forum could be set up following the recommendations of an independent report on early years services in the capital.

The forum would campaign for measures to reduce the cost of childcare.Measures could include a childcare "credit card" designed to carry thepublic subsidy of childcare for low-paid workers - an idea similar tothat proposed for the Children Now Manifesto by Busy Bees' John Woodward(Children Now, 28 February-6 March).

A project raising the profile of childcare in London could also be setup.

The report, Solving the Quality/Cost Conundrum for London's ChildcareWorkforce, was unveiled today (2 May) by the London Childcare WorkforceProject.
