Childcare Affordability Programme pilots launched

1 min read Early Years
The second phase of the Childcare Affordability Programme will provide 12m to boost the take-up of childcare among low-income families in London.

The London Development Agency will fund two pilots, offering parenting support and a subsidy for childcare fees to 2,000 parents across ten boroughs.

Islington, Barking and Dagenham, Enfield, Lewisham and Merton will take part in the parental support pilot, while Hackney, Southwark, Brent, Ealing and Wandsworth will be able to offer subsidies for childcare fees.

The programme also includes two pilots funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, and run by HM Revenue and Customs. These will test more generous support through the working tax credit for low-income families living in London and families with severely disabled children.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson, said: "This marvellous new programme will provide a real lifeline for thousands of parents who want to go out to work and make a better life for themselves and their families. It will not only bring benefits to London today but for many years to come."
