A study by Opportunity Links will look at how councils are preparing tomeet the new information duty under the Childcare Act 2006. Thelegislation requires councils to provide information to parents andservice providers.
The study will look at national trends as well as how a sample ofcouncils are dealing with the challenges.
Key issues include how information services will fit in with Connexions,the role of extended schools in giving out information and how expandedinformation services will be funded. "Our research aims to look at whatlocal authorities are doing, what they plan to do and where they needadditional support," said Rebecca Foreman, Opportunity Links' head ofresearch.
