Children's information services and others that gather information onchildcare providers are being encouraged to adopt the standard to makeit easier for them to share data.
This should mean families get better information in less time.
The standard was developed by national voluntary organisationOpportunity Links and approved by the Government earlier this month.
The hope is that it will be adopted by organisations like children'sinformation services, early years teams, health services, and extendedschools.
"They all need access to the same data and they're all storing aspectsof that data," explained Mark Cheverton, Opportunity Links' technicaldirector. "This means that their systems can exchange information." PThe Childcare Providers Details Scheme is published atwww.govtalk.gov.uk
