Child protection: Workers to get faith group guidance

Guidance for front-line practitioners working with faith groups around child protection looks set to be commissioned by the London Child Protection Committee group set up to tackle the issue.

The news follows the sentencing of three people who tortured an eight-year-old because they believed she was a witch. The girl's aunt was jailed for 10 years for child cruelty, while Sita Kisanga and Sebastian Pinto, found guilty of helping her, were sentenced to 10 and four years respectively.

Hannah Miller, lead on child trafficking for the Association of Directors of Social Services, said commissioning guidance for front-line practitioners would be one of the first things the group, officially set up tomorrow (14 July) would consider.
