Child Protection: Protocol for faith groups developed

A child protection protocol for work with faith communities, including African churches, is being developed by agencies in London in response to concerns that children are suffering abuse.

Hannah Miller, director of social services at Croydon council, told Children Now it was particularly important for agencies to establish good child protection practices in new churches and sects.

The Pan-London Child Protection Committee will today (20 April) discuss how to take the protocol forward.

Miller also said Croydon was setting up an advisory group of pastors from African churches that will help social services to engage with new groups and "share intelligence".
