Child protection: Offenders under caution face ban

People cautioned for child sex crimes will be automatically barred from work with children.

Junior children's minister Parmjit Dhanda this week published draftregulations that are now out for consultation until 2 January.Currently, individuals cautioned for sex offences are not automaticallyplaced on List 99, the official blacklist of adults judged unsuitablefor work in schools.

The rules would ensure that child sex offenders can be added to List 99in three ways: automatic barring; automatic inclusion; and discretionarybarring. Daycare and childminding regulations will also be amended toensure the same regime applies.
