
Vulnerable services such as libraries and children's centres could be expected to do more to support themselves if local authority budget cuts continue, a new report warns. The Coping with cuts? Local government and poorer communities report, published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, also reveals that deprived areas are being hit with larger local authority budget cuts than more affluent areas, with a difference of up to £100 a head.
Child protection teams across the country require greater resources in order to catch abusers, the former head of Child Exploitation and Online Protection centre (Ceop) has said. The BBC reports that Jim Gamble said that child protection teams in police forces are small and don’t have national support. Gamble was speaking after Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins admitted two counts of attempted rape and 12 other offences including sexual assault and taking, making and distributing indecent images of children.
