The child protection charity announced last week that ChildLine, whichhas been struggling financially for some time, will become a divisionwithin the NSPCC. The move, which is expected to be legally completedearly next year, will ensure that all of ChildLine's services includingits schools participation scheme, Chips, will continue.
Wes Cuell, director of services to children and young people at theNSPCC, told Children Now his organisation would continue to use theChildLine name and helpline number. The NSPCC is also planning a seriesof improvements to the service in the next 12 months, he added.
"This deal is not just about ChildLine's survival but developing itspotential," he said. "Recruiting and training more volunteers is a toppriority and in a year's time you should expect there to be a muchbetter response rate to calls to ChildLine."
