The Staying Safe Commitment Scheme aims to raise awareness of the needfor such policies in order not only to protect children but alsoreassure parents and give confidence to staff and volunteers.
Children could be "at risk of abuse" when taking part in community,recreational, leisure and religious activities, according to theNSPCC.
Fiona Becker, senior consultant for NSPCC training and consultancy'said: "Some organisations do not have child protection policies andprocedures. There is a danger of infiltration of professionals andvolunteers into an organisation with the aim of harming children - thisscheme will help organisations minimise that risk."
