Sport: Golf clubs to receive NSPCC child protection training

1 min read
The NSPCC is to provide child protection training to golf clubs around the country after appointing a new development officer for golf.

In addition, every golf club in the country will put in place a designated child protection person under plans drawn up by golf's governing bodies and the Child Protection in Sport Unit, a partnership between the charity and Sport England.

Vicky Bailey, who was appointed to the development role last week, will co-ordinate the child protection efforts of the governing bodies, including the Professional Golfers Association and the Association of Golf Club Secretaries.

She is employed by the NSPCC but the sport's governing bodies are funding her position.

Steve Boocock, director of the unit, said the NSPCC had been working with the UK's sports councils for the past three years to develop child protection practice.
