Speaking to Children Now at a conference run by Capita EducationServices, Paul Mohr, IT manager - information sharing and assessment atBirmingham City Council, said the index "will save us 2m ayear".
"Nationally, the system has cost 250m but local authorities areset to save a lot more," he said. Mohr said the savings will come fromchildren's services being better able to manage their workloads, themore effective targeting of resources and because it will be easier andquicker for services to find children when necessary.
He expects the savings will start being seen a year or two after theindex launches.
