Charity pushes for disability plan

Health Social Care
A disabled children's charity has urged health and social care chiefs to review spending and policy on equipment for disabled children.

BDF Newlife, which helps families with children affected by birth defects, is proposing a six-point action plan, which it wants the heads of primary care trusts and local authorities in England, Scotland and Wales to sign up to. The plan includes having a formal application process and reviewing spending to inform budgets.

BDF Newlife's chief executive Sheila Brown said: "Our research shows there is little appreciation of the spending levels needed to give the right support to disabled children."
