Centre staff to be trained to work across agencies

1 min read Early Years
Children's centre leaders want more training to address the issue of multi-agency working, and believe they should be at the heart of creating a new course for the workforce.

This was one of the most prominent concerns that came out of the nine regional meetings held by the new Children's Centre Leaders Network. Former heads of children's centres Sue Webster and Annie Coulston have recently been appointed joint-co-ordinators of the network, which was set up by Together for Children.

Webster said a fresh emphasis on working across professional boundaries, particularly in areas such as outreach and family support, has created new training requirements. "Centre leaders are quite eager to contribute and co-construct that training because they know what needs to be done," she said.

The network was created in March this year in a bid to identify the big issues for children's centres and inform the government on future policymaking.
