Careers: Story of a placement

An anonymous account of a real social work placement

I joined a family support team within children's services from September to January. Everybody was so busy on my first day, I just tried to fit in. It was quite daunting but the team was supportive and friendly. However, there was not much time to have a conversation.

Absent supervisor

The manager, my supervisor, wasn't around often. I was supposed to have a weekly supervision session but I only had about two official ones in the three months.

It would have been nice to have weekly one-to-ones, because you want to make sure that you are doing what you are supposed to be doing and not going off track.
