Cafcass: Devolution to regions proposed in consultation on restructuring

1 min read
Cafcass chief executive Anthony Douglas wants to cut several senior management roles as part of restructuring proposals put out to consultation with staff.

The plans, which were approved by the board of the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) at its last meeting on 12 November, involve a major decentralisation of management and the abolition of head office divisions.

Douglas said there were "compelling arguments for change" in Cafcass's culture and structure.

Alison Paddle, the chair of Nagalro, the organisation for children's guardians and independent social workers, welcomed the "open and flexible" consultation but was concerned there was little mention of the "mixed economy" of the Cafcass workforce. Around 20 per cent of staff are freelance practitioners.

But Douglas said there would be "no change to our mixed economy approach".
