Busy Bees Childcare

What happened? Busy Bees Childcare, which runs 131 nurseries across England, distributed discount vouchers for theme park outings to more than 15,000 families who attend its nurseries across the country. The vouchers included money off family tickets and toddler discounts on entry to the Alton Towers Resort throughout the summer holidays.

Anything else? It also ran an online monthly free prize draw to win a family ticket to either Alton Towers Resort, Chessington World of Adventures or Legoland Windsor throughout September.

What did individual nurseries do? Busy Bees Burton-on-Trent ran an Alton Towers-themed open day, where each room was themed around an Alton Towers ride and the children came in fancy dress. Vouchers and goodie bags were distributed on the day.

Why did they do it? Busy Bees decided to run the offer after research from charity 4Children showed that the recession is stopping children from enjoying family days out. The survey, carried out as part of its annual Shout Out 4Children Week, suggested that 38 per cent of children in the UK have never been to a theme park, and that 10 per cent of children had not been on a family outing in the last 12 months.
