Bus brings services to rural Sussex

Education Social Care
Families living in one rural local authority won't have to visit their nearest children's centre - because it will come to them.

West Sussex County Council is working on a mobile children's centre, which will take services out to people living in rural areas in the county. The centre-on-wheels will visit pre-schools, schools, medical centres and other community services.

The bus itself will be operated by rural outreach co-ordinators, and they will be joined by other staff such as health visitors, Jobcentre Plus workers and the toy library co-ordinator.

A spokesman for the council said: "Fun events will be held for local families and service providers to keep up-to-date with progress and ensure services really meet the needs of local families."

The spokesman added: "Meeting the needs of children and families can be very difficult. This mobile provision will take additional services to places families already use in the rural communities."
