What does it do? The centre runs an accredited course on positive parenting, encouraging child development, healthy eating, safety and play. The challenge for staff is to make the course accessible for parents who come from a range of backgrounds. The centre does this by employing interpreters for parents who struggle to understand English. The tutors are also from various backgrounds and speak Urdu, French, Arabic and Somali between them. This not only makes it easier for the centre to communicate with parents but the cultural diversity among staff reflects the community it serves, which makes the parents feel more comfortable.
