2 mins read
The Government is planning to overhaul the welfare system and getting claimants into work is a major theme of the green paper.

Why do I need to know about plans for welfare reform? Well, a lot of thepeople who receive the benefits under discussion are parents. And thepaper as a whole repeats the Government's belief that work is the bestway out of poverty.

So I'll be working until I'm 72? It's a possibility. By 2024, about halfof the adult population will be over 50. The birth rate in the UK islow, with one in five women remaining childless. So, there's quite a bitof discussion about how to increase the numbers of all adults in work, with a particular focus on over-50s.

What about those who just can't work? In essence, those under 65 whoneed help to look after themselves can apply for disability livingallowance.
