2 mins read
A plan to tackle crime and its causes over the next 10 years has been produced by Government and is now out for consultation.

The name's plan, crime plan. So, you're unshaken and unstirred by the10-year crime plan from the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit, anotherhefty tome to add to the annual criminal justice and security Bills aswell as acres of newsprint on the subject? It seems to represent agenuine attempt to promote discussion about some controversial ideas. Inthe words of the document: "The Government's aims remain to reduce crimeand to improve the satisfaction and confidence of citizens in thecriminal justice system."

That sounds sensible. It sets out the strategic framework for tacklingcrime: taking a more targeted and personalised approach to dealing withserious and persistent crime; placing law-abiding citizens at the heartof the criminal justice system; focusing on high crime areas; andengaging with the workforce to revitalise and reform services. The paperalso includes significant passages on security issues, managed migrationand community cohesion.
