Bodies invited to apply for funding

The money was announced by new volunteering charity v on Monday. Justin Davis Smith, director of the Institute for Volunteering Research and a member of the v board of trustees, said: "Organisations must be encouraged to come up with meaningful opportunities."

Grants will be made for up to two years for full- and part-time opportunities and for up to a year for short-term opportunities.

Organisations must apply for funding to develop full-time or part-time opportunities by 9 June. Those applying for short-term opportunities are invited to apply by 23 June.
