Bill should not overlook Neets

Youth Work
Youth work charity UK Youth has called on the government to take into account the needs of young people who are outside of the formal education system in its Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Bill, which is currently going through Parliament.

The charity, which offers skills training to 750,000 young people, says that those not in education, employment or training (Neet) need to be engaged and motivated before they can make any progress towards formal qualifications.

It argues that with responsibility for higher education funding for 16- to 19-year-olds being handed over to local authorities from 2010, there is a real danger that the services provided by the voluntary sector could be reduced.
