Among the seven projects sharing the funding is an initiative to use technology to help nursery-aged disabled children get the most out of play. AbilityNet's scheme, which has been awarded almost £250,000, will enable 18 nurseries across England to receive specialised computer equipment including a touch screen and accessible keyboards, as well as a range of accessible games and software.
Rory Field, corporate and development manager at AbilityNet, said disabled children were often excluded from play because of their disability.
Other projects to benefit include the National Children's Bureau's Locked in Play initiative, which was awarded over £160,000 to develop better activities for children whose parents are in custody.
