Big Lottery Fund awards play schemes 1m each

Early Years
Two play schemes in South Wales have secured around 1m each in the latest round of Big Lottery Fund awards.

Rhondda Cynon Taff Play Association's Branching Out Community Play Project has been awarded £979,511 to expand its service to cover around 2,900 eight- to 12-year-olds across the area.

Cardiff City Council has received £998,117 to run its Cardiff and Vale Play Project in 24 areas across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

The money has been handed out as part of the £13m Child's Play allocation of the Big Lottery Fund's £20m Healthy Families programme.

Eight other play projects in Wales have already been handed money from the allocation, amounting to around £7.5m.

Barbara Wilding, vice-chair of the Healthy Families committee, said: "All the latest projects benefiting from funding promote healthy and active lifestyles among children and families.

"Through Child's Play we are taking positive action to preserve the health of future generations."
