Big Interview: At the forefront of change - John Goffee, chair, Association of Principal Youth and Community Officers

The reform of services for children and young people, the formulation of a green paper that is expected to define the future of the youth service, and a general election have made 2005 very busy for chair John Goffee.

"As far as APYCO is concerned, it has been a really challenging year so far," he says. "It has also been a really good year to be chair, with the proposed youth green paper and all the discussions around that."

Goffee started out in youth work as a volunteer, but then decided to go into teaching. "I didn't realise you could get paid for doing youth work," he says. But, soon after, he decided he wanted to move into youth work and applied for a full-time job in Warwickshire.
