The Ducklings Day Nursery, Lancashire - Early years inspection -
July 2014
It's music week at Ducklings Day Nursery. There are interactive displays playing different kinds of music and plenty of musical instruments on hand for children to play with. The parents are also involved as the nursery has called on them to bring in materials that could be transformed into musical instruments. "We asked them to look for junk modeling things so that their child can make a percussion instrument," says Sarah Simpson, the owner and manager of Ducklings.
Getting parents involved is a big part of Ducklings' philosophy and a key factor in its recent "outstanding" rating from Ofsted. The drive to get mothers and fathers participating starts from the moment that parents register their children with the nursery. "They are given a welcome pack with a parental partnership agreement in it that says this is what we'll do and this is what we expect from you," says Simpson. "So straightaway they know that they are involved and that high standards are expected from them as well."
