Balls rejects pleas to help smaller youth organisations

1 min read Youth Work
A call for extra financial support for small youth groups has been rejected by the Children's Secretary.

The National Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS) this week said small youth organisations look set to miss out on cash from the myplace funding scheme for new youth clubs as projects must spend between £1m and £5m.

Susanne Rauprich, NCVYS chief executive, said: "Small community-based organisations are losing out. Myplace needs to be counter-balanced with a fund that helps all organisations, regardless of size. Without this the government risks destroying the very fabric of local youth services."

Her call coincided with the publication of Every Organisation Matters, a report by NCVYS and the National Council of Voluntary Child Care Organisations that highlights how small charities are losing out financially.
