I've been hearing recently about an action research project called WhatMakes the Difference (for Care Leavers).
This is great, as the steps from being looked after to independence canbe massive for 16-year-olds, many of whom are moved on before they areready.
Thankfully, there are some good supported housing schemes that helpequip young people with some of the life skills necessary to move on.But provision is often patchy and supported lodging carers are thin onthe ground.
I was talking to a leaving care colleague recently about this and hedescribed how his son, who was brought up in a stable home, hadstruggled during his first term at university.
