Call me paranoid, but aren't young people becoming more mistrustful?
I shouldn't be that surprised. If I were a teenager, I think I would be getting a little suspicious about the world and the way it sees me.
We've got supermarkets banning young people in hoodies, schools that are like fortresses and almost anything other than staying in and watching Coronation Street is now considered antisocial behaviour.
As a result, we are creating an environment in which it is much more difficult to engage with young people.
I'm not talking about the ones we already know. We certainly don't have any problems engaging with them. It's the others I'm thinking about. The ones we have to reach out to. The ones on the outside looking in. Or, as is more likely, the ones passing by quickly on their way home.
