I'm sure if you work in Accident and Emergency, you don't think every broken leg and cracked head you fix is a miracle. After a while, it must just become what you do. Kind of ordinary.
That's how I feel about youth work most of the time. It's just what we do. I know it's something special. I've been there and bought the T-shirt. But after a while it can all become a bit, well, unremarkable.
We meet young people and do our thing. Then we meet some more young people and do some more of our thing. And so it goes on. For some young people, "our thing" can have a really powerful impact. Sometimes it can be life-changing stuff. I've seen it happen lots of times. And that's part of the problem.
