I followed the furore of the recent Celebrity Big Brother "racism" saga with some incredulity. I must confess to having watched not a single episode of the show - but the wall-to-wall media coverage made its controversy impossible to avoid.

When the series began I recall thinking that the inclusion of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty among the housemates was a blatant move by the show's organisers to capture an Asian audience that may not have previously paid it much attention. From the conversations I heard from friends and colleagues, the Asian audience had indeed been enticed into watching - and not just young people but older generations.
