Southend has got a new youth mayor. He's only been in the job a little over three weeks, but already things are looking good. He's enthusiastic, easy to get on with and really wants to improve things for the thousands of young people who live in the borough.

But, according to Mr Sid Crancher, that's not what's important. After seeing a photo of the new youth mayor in our local free paper, Mr Crancher was compelled to put pen to paper and write in to complain. Not about his proposed policies or plans, rather about his hair.

I wouldn't normally name and shame, but this week I've decided to make an exception. You see, Mr Crancher really overstepped the mark, calling our youth mayor a "scruffy sod". And thanks to the questionable decision of the local paper to publish the letter, Mr Crancher's comments were given a legitimate platform and pushed through some 65,000 letter boxes.
