It would have been impossible not to be impressed by the stream of smartly dressed children and young people who made their way to the front of the packed council chamber to collect their certificates, pausing for a photograph with the mayor and our executive councillor for children and learning, and returning to their seats.
All the children and young people at this prestigious event had been nominated for an award by their school or college. Some of them were recognised for their academic achievements, others for their outstanding school attendance record, involvement in extracurricular activities or for reaching a challenging personal goal.
