- Rod Liddle, one-time BBC radio producer, now columnist, tells a shocking story in the Spectator. It probably goes down well at his dinner parties.

He says a friend volunteered for a course that would enable him to teach cricket to the under-12s. "The volunteers were lined up and told: 'At least 10 to 15 per cent of you here today are paedophiles. We do not know yet who you are.' He left, sickened."

Liddle goes on to claim that the rules governing how adults involved in such activities are supposed to interact with their young charges are now "so copious, so strict and so labyrinthine" that fewer people want to have any part of it. He gives one example: "You should never be alone with a child. Ever. How does that stricture make you feel?"
