- Remember the poll that showed Wayne Rooney to be children's choice for prime minister? Looks like the idea might have been vetoed anyway.

The massively admired 19-year-old England footballer has been unceremoniously ditched by the English Schools' Football Association.

The Daily Mirror reported that the association considered Rooney a bad role model for children. His appearance at an under-13s tournament was cancelled.

Looked at in the context of the current drive against childhood obesity, this seems disappointing.

Whatever. The decision left the association and its sponsor looking for another celebrity. The sponsor is sugary drinks manufacturer Coca Cola.

The Food Standards Agency says children and young people in the UK consume too much sugar. More of it comes from fizzy drinks than any other type of food or drink. There are around 35 grams of sugar - more than eight teaspoonfuls - in a standard can of Coca Cola.
