1 min read

What are your responsibilities? I work as part of a team of two youth workers to develop and implement group work and one-to-one support with young people who live and meet in the Titchfield area. My work is to target young people who are not using other youth provisions. The issues I normally deal with include homelessness, substance misuse and sexual health.

Who comes to your meetings? I meet with my line manager, Paul Race, as well as other agencies and organisations. These include Connexions, street wardens at Mansfield District Council, homeless centre The Hall and sexual health agency Techno Chances.

How did you get the job? I originally began in youth work on a voluntary basis and I had no recognised qualifications. Since then I have become a qualified youth worker, which includes training in equal opportunities, health and safety and child protection. I also have a teaching assistant certificate from the University of Hertfordshire and have studied British Sign Language for two years.
