I started by doing voluntary work with young people at a church in central London and enjoyed it so much I decided to get qualified. I've now been doing youth work for 15 years. After doing my training I realised that detached work was a great way to meet young people without all the clobber of a typical youth club.
What do you like about youth work? Meeting young people on their own terms and being able to be fully human with them. It's also about being trusted by them with personal information. Seeing and inspiring young people to become youth workers is the biggest fizz for me.
