I co-ordinate more than 250 adult and community learning courses and the design, development and implementation of niche community projects, which address specific identified needs.
What is a typical week? My role involves finding out the needs of the local community and working with tutors on courses. I manage community projects, including a project funded by the Invest to Save Budget to reduce repeat offending.
Who is in your meetings? I meet agencies and organisations in the education sector and social policy areas, including the county council, specialist colleges, universities, Jobcentre Plus, Sedgemoor Magistrates' Court, the police, Connexions and government agencies.
How did you get the job? I have a degree in politics and economics and I am working towards a masters degree in management. For this role you need a great deal of enthusiasm and passion for lifelong learning, a genuine interest in people and a commitment to innovative and sustainable solutions.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your work? I enjoy the opportunity to explore creative learning solutions to identified needs in the community. The challenge of taking an idea, exploring views, working in partnership and developing a new and pioneering initiative or course is really rewarding.
What is the biggest headache? Sometimes organising my time is really difficult.
