Back Page: And this is what I do - Charlotte McLeod, Gypsy andTraveller community youth worker, Bromley

1 min read

What kind of programmes do you run? We do work on housing, teenage pregnancy and sexual health, drug and alcohol abuse, and also date rape. I also fundraise and have set up the Riverbed Youth Club with money from Positive Activities for Young People. We have organised trips away and ran a boxing club.

What are you currently working on?

A Traveller history project where we take young people to stay in traditional Gypsy wagons. We will be having an exhibition at Orpington Museum in January.

Do you have a youth work background?

Yes, I am a qualified personal adviser and have a full-time diploma in youth and community work. I got into youth work at 15 when I was a special needs volunteer. I also worked in an advice and information shop. My mother, Jean McLeod, was head of Bromley Youth Service until last year.
