I often wonder if being a principal youth officer will eventually turn me into a total control freak. I spend far too long organising myself as well as the people around me. And my job means I have to know a little bit about a lot of things. Not a good combination, but luckily for me I get a reality check from time to time from young people themselves.

My latest one came last week. I invited a group of young people to the youth office to work on a project. For a while we've been looking at ways of involving young people in observing and assessing youth work and personal adviser practice. Now it was time to start training young people to do this work.
