Awards: Sector features heavily in Queen's New Year Honours

The chief executive of Children in Scotland, the founder of the NSPCC's Full Stop campaign and the former head of Barnardo's were among those recognised in the Queen's New Year Honours.

Bronwen Cohen, chief executive of Children in Scotland, received an OBEfor her services to children and families. Cohen said: "I am verypleased that Children in Scotland has been recognised for its work."

Lady Carole Bamford, vice-chair of the NSPCC's Full Stop campaign, alsoreceived an OBE, while Roger Singleton, who was the chief executive ofBarnardo's for 21 years, received a knighthood.

Other awards include:

Knighthood: David Hart, general secretary, National Association of HeadTeachers.

Order of the Bath: Helen Williams, director for the School StandardsGroup, Department for Education and Skills.

CBE: Colin Hilton, executive director of children's services, LiverpoolCity Council; Michael Lauerman, former director, Looked After Children'sTaskforce, Department for Education and Skills.
